Draft Model of Downtown Bemidji & its Wastewater Facility
 

The City of Bemidji is located in Northern Minnesota at the south central portion of Beltrami County.

The city resides within Township/Range,  T146 R33 & T147 R33.

The area of focus is within township 146 sections  4,8,9,16,17.
The above grid was created with NPS Grid Tools.
The center points were created with polygon_Get_X_Center.cal & polygon_Get_Y_Center.cal from Easy Calculate 5.0

Instead of utilizing the PLSS grid,  polygons 1,2,3 were created to clip raster images from an aerial photo.
Polygon 3 is the area of Downtown Bemidji  (area of main focus)
Polygon 1 is the area of Bemidji State University Campus. (Secondary area of focus)

The above 3D display from ArcScene shows the raster images that coincide with polygons 1,2,3.
Bemidji wastewater treatment facility is located in the bottom right of raster clip 3.
Downtown Bemidji is in the upper left of raster clip 3.
Bemidji State University is at the center right of raster clip1. (the shoreline point)

Building foundation polygons were created by tracing rooftops in the aerial image.
These polygons were then into Sketchup for 3D modeling .

The building foundation polygons were exported as groups associated with city blocks.
The above image shows the downtown area building grid assignments.
The building footprint / foundations are referenced to the center point of Polygon clip3.
 

Elevation / ground height for the  raster images are set by a TIN created from 10' contour intervals of a clipped DEM.
This 3D Model view is from the North overlooking Bemidji State University towards downtown Bemidji.

Building models include the wastewater facility, Union Square, Pamida, Grain Elevator and numerous other downtown area buildings.

These Models were  exported from Sketchup to a multipatch shapefile.
Building 3D geometry of the models are referenced to the Beltrami Projection.

Building foundations, Walls, Roof Pitch, Elevation, Height, etc. is tied directly to the mapping/projection datum.

• The numbers utilized for the projections below are for testing/evaluation purposes.

Z component displays amount of wastewater discharged.
transparent columns display threshold levels based on square footage of facility.
Based on # of people assigned to a facility.

Note: Brown Columns = exceeded wastewater discharge threshold.

Note: Visitor Center in the top center of display = 1000 people (Paul and Babe Day)
